From May 23–26 in New Delhi, India will play home to the 44th iteration of the prestigious annual plenary of the International Organization for Standardization's (ISO COPOLCO) Committee on Consumer Policy.
Minister of Consumer Affairs, Food, and Public Distribution Piyush Goyal will officially launch the event. Sadie Dainton, the chair of COPOLCO, Serjio Mujica, the general secretary of the ISO, and other ISO representatives will be present.
Promoting consumer interests in the standardization process and ensuring that standards are created with customers' requirements in mind are the duties of the ISO's Committee on Consumer Policy.
The Committee's plenary will also include conversation sessions and seminars on relevant issues, in addition to other different events aimed at enhancing consumer participation in the standardization process.
The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), India's national standards authority, is in charge of organizing the massive event.
Leaders from the public and private sectors, as well as foreign delegations of important global stakeholders, will attend the four-day event.
This year's plenary is especially significant for India and the global community due to its people-centered approach and topics including Challenges and Good Practices for Consumer Engagement, Empowering Consumers for a Sustainable Future, and Consumer Protection and Legal Frameworks.
Workshops and speeches by a number of eminent speakers, including ministers and other people of note from throughout the globe, will be presented during the conference. Additionally, the event will include panel talks on topics related to consumer involvement.
The ISO COPOLCO Plenary is projected to have a substantial influence on the world economy and consequently on people's lives.
The International Standards Organization (ISO), a global organization with 168 member nations, creates standards that have an influence on a variety of economic and societal sectors.
The ISO incorporates a larger public in the standardization process via its consumer committee on standards development (COPOLCO). Consequently, ISO COPOLCO is regarded as the important international conference that brings together officials from ISO member nations to debate and formulate plans for speeding the creation of standards for the whole globe.
Being one of the founding members of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), India has long been actively engaged in issues relating to international standardization.
BIS actively participates in topics of worldwide and regional standards in its position as the National Standards Body of India. BIS is a member of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) via the Indian National Committee (INC).
As part of IBSA (India, Brazil, and South Africa), BIS is also a member of regional standards organizations including the Pacific Area Standards Congress (PASC) and the South Asian Regional Standards Organization (SARSO).
