In the northern Karnataka district of Kalaburagi, the home area of Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, Prime Minister Narendra Modi staged a massive roadshow on Tuesday.
The incident occurred only days after Priyank Kharge, an MLA and former minister, and Kharge both compared Modi to a “venomous snake” and called him “nalayak” (inept).
The Prime Minister's new campaign slogan for the May 10 Assembly election, “Eee Baariya Nirdhara, Bahumatada BJP Sarkara,” was chanted as the roadshow travelled through Kalaburagi city's main thoroughfares.
Modi was riding in a specially adorned open vehicle while donning the saffron hat of the BJP and a yellow scarf around his neck. Umesh Jadhav, a BJP member from Kalaburagi, and Bhagwant Khuba, the Union Minister of State for Chemicals and Fertilisers, were with him.
The jubilant mob had gathered on both sides of the highways, and Modi waved at them.
Flags, festoons, and banners for the BJP could be seen on every street in the city.
The Prime Minister campaigned for the state's governing BJP earlier in the day by holding three straight rallies in northern Karnataka's Chitradurga, Hospet, and Sindhanur.
